I do not recommend sticking the hand through a leash loop since an especially small person may get injured by a powerful dog if he bolts. Also, this way, you will get a longer leash.

Regular leash with loop and metal ring. This leash is a little shorter. It enables you to use the loop in many ways.

The small loop will give you some advantages of the leash with and some advantages of a leash without the loop.
